Why Communications Should Be at the Heart of Every Organization
It’s no secret that top-winning companies have strong and effective internal communications teams. These companies thrive on employees that deliver consistently positive results and are aligned with the mission and values of the organization they are working for. 86% of employees feel that the reason a company fails is because of poor internal communication.
Boosting Employee Morale
By effectively communicating happenings to each employee of the organization, one may feel they are more enthusiastic, happy, and excited about the work they are doing and the impact they are making. A good company urges employees to make that impact and strive for more - all the while ensuring that each employee knows their value to the company. This value isn’t made secret, but amplified. Good employee morale comes from many places, but open and honest communication kickstarts this process.
Boosting Employee Engagement
Employees are much more likely to engage in their workplace through events, reading and reacting to communication, or even little things, like opening an email. There are many ways to help promote positive employee engagement through communications efforts, such as making work easier and surveying team members on their feedback for the company. Each of these things are incredibly important in keeping a community-like feel between colleagues and in the office.
Boosting Employee Productivity
When employees feel they are making a positive impact at work, they are immensely more productive because of a few different reasons:
More understanding.
As employees begin to understand the value in their work, they will ultimately understand how what they do plays out into the time and effort they put into the company. More understanding for employees helps to inform on current events, new launchings, as well as leadership updates and opportunities.
Positive relationships.
Relationships with close colleagues and throughout the company will begin to become more authentic and real. As these people begin to feel comfortable talking about both their personal lives and the internal communication, they are more likely to begin similar conversations with other employees - thus begins a positive spiral of positive relationships.
Accountability and confidence in work.
With increased communication comes more confidence in the work being done for the good of the organization. With true communication that plays with your emotions and allows you to take an outside-peek on the good work you are doing for the company, a sort of confidence in the good job you are doing is instilled. Now, of course we want all employees to feel comfortable for what they are doing - so we also need to show how we hold employees accountable for their actions while also telling them they have done a good job.
Boosting Employee Satisfaction
While there are only so many things that we can do in Communications, we can use what we can to help change the outlook on a company and the “gloomy light” that is over it. Overall, employees will be happy in the work they are doing because of the culture, positive reinforcement, and their happiness in the workplace. With satisfaction, comes positive change, and with continual positive change, comes a great future workplace for generations to come.
