How to Stay Motivated Over the Summer
It can be difficult to maintain motivation over the Summer, but taking intentional time and staying focused on your future career is something you won’t regret. It’s no secret that this year looks a little different than most. We’ve now spent an entire year staring at our screens, so naturally a break is something we are all craving, but if you follow these tips you can stay motivated while still getting the Summer break you’ve been yearning for.
Establish a Routine
Finding a routine each day is a great way to get your body moving and get in the habit of completing certain tasks. While routines can seem tedious, especially in the excitement of Summer, it will allow you to accomplish things you wouldn’t have done before, and besides who says the routine has to be boring? It can be as simple as setting aside a couple hours a day for personal branding, blogging, or even internship work followed by a drink by the pool or dinner with friends and family.
Stay in Contact with People in your Program
Creating relationships with people in your program is a great way to begin fostering relationships for your future, as well as a great motivational asset. Making these friendships and connections can help you feel motivated to expand your portfolio and even gives you people to bounce creative ideas off of.
Get a Job
If you’re able to, getting a job or an internship is a natural way to initiate a routine and get real world experience in the area you are looking to go into in the future. Remember to keep in mind that every job is valuable and will offer some sort of learning experience for you as an undergrad!
Find a Hobby
Hobbies are your best friend! Maybe TikTok has inspired you to start something new or you have a long lost hobby, either way now is the time to find a new niche or get that old hobby back. Hobbies are great outlets for releasing stress, bonding with friends, and even getting your creative juices flowing.
Take Time for Yourself
Most importantly, remember to take time for yourself. Whether this is a day off, a vacation, or sleeping in, mental health days are so important! Leading a motivational Summer should be our goal, and I promise that it can be done while continuing to do what’s best for you.
So remember, there are plenty of ways that you can make your break relaxing while also taking the steps to further your career and potentially land opportunities you may not have had otherwise. And besides, these steps and opportunities are a great way to help keep your mental health in check. Keeping our body and mind healthy should be our top priorities, and with tips like these and leading a motivational Summer, you can help do that! Now I ask you: what are your plans this Summer?
