Overcoming Obstacles to Your Success

Stop being an obstacle to your own life is a bold and to the point statement. This concept came to my mind when I began to reflect and consider what I want to do once my college experience comes to a close. I am graduating from Grand Valley with my degree in Advertising and Public Relations this May. The big question is, what’s next? After four years of hard work and education, I have been longing for this moment, but it almost seems I am more lost than I was when I arrived. This is the big world now and it's time to make big changes. I started to think of all the dreams and goals I had over the years for what I wanted my big girl job to be. I noticed that many ideas I had previously no longer existed, I’d  given up on them. What was holding me back? The answer was me.

Many of your “obstacles” to achieve these dreams are rooted in your own fears and self-determined incapability in your mind. No one told you that it wasn’t possible or you weren’t good enough for the role; it's all in your head.

Today we make a change! How I stopped being an obstacle to my success? Confidence and bravery.

Confidence Is the Key to Success

Fake it till you make it has been a quote I’ve lived by since the first time I heard it and it's true.  If you convince yourself and others that you are, then you will believe it is true. Confidence when relating to professionalism tends to fall back on the concept of imposter syndrome and the idea that you aren’t good enough. You are the only one thinking that. You have all the needed items in your tool belt, you have the foundational knowledge you’ve learned in courses, internship and job experience, creativity flowing through you, and resources to gaining new knowledge of all forms. There is nothing out of your reach. If you're chosen for the interview or receive the job, they saw the success you would bring in the position, now it's time to put the self-doubt to the side and show them the ability they saw within you.

Take the Leap

Apply for the job, start your own business, create your blog, start your podcast, take the leap. You have nothing to lose. If you fail at least you tried, that's more than doing nothing at all. If you invest the time and try your hardest what’s meant to happen in your life will. Life is full of endless opportunities and endless amounts of knowledge. Take the time to invest in yourself and your dreams. Achieve all you can possibly dream of achieving. If you won't, who will?

Stop holding yourself back from achieving all your goals both big and small, even if they sound absolutely crazy. Dream big and you will do big things, the world is at your fingertips.
