How to Manage a Brand’s Social Media Presence
Social media has been around for awhile now. Personally, I’ve had a Facebook account since I was 10 years-old (crazy, I know right). Maybe that’s why I have such a passion for social networking. As the previous Media Director for GrandPR, social media became a huge part of not only my everyday life but my professional life. I have learned a lot about running social media accounts for brands through my experience with GrandPR and my internship at Our Full Attention. If you’re looking for some tips on how to manage a brand on social media, keep reading!
Stay Consistent
The best advice I can give to someone running a company’s social media account is to stay consistent across all platforms. This includes having the exact same username and profile picture/header on every platform. Doing this makes it easier for the public to find your accounts. It’s also important to use similar language and proper grammar in your posts. Limit posts to only using one emoji, especially in a professional setting. If you are in charge of a business’s social media account, make sure to follow all their brand guidelines in regards to colors, logos, tone etc. Many companies have versioned out a logo specifically for social media. For example, GrandPR’s logo has been redesigned specifically for social media.
Use Hashtags Sparingly
Hashtags are a great way to spread content across social media. However, they can be perceived as unprofessional when too many are used. I tend to only use hashtags on occasion on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN. On Twitter, hashtags for live conversations are very useful. Using hashtags helps grow followers. The trick is to almost “hide” the hashtags in your caption. Do this by using this Instagram Caption Generator website. In addition, studies have shown that more than 10 hashtags can be excessive, so keep it selective. There are many websites that show which hashtags are trending for particular industries such as All Hashtag and Top-Hashtags.
Stay Organized
The best way to manage a personal or business account is to stay organized. This can be done by using a content calendar on Google Sheets, or a mobile app, like Planoly, for Instagram (this is perfect for creating an aesthetic). Facebook allows you to schedule posts directly from the app, while programs like Hootsuite , Tweetdeck and Sprout allow you to schedule posts in advance for any social platform. I promise this will make your life 100x easier if used consistently!
Social media is the perfect outlet to get creative! Let your company’s brand flourish through the language, messaging and content that you post. Don’t forget to set goals in terms of engagement, followers and impressions to grow your presence even stronger. Lastly, have fun with it! Social media won’t be going away anytime soon. If anything, it is growing to become even more popular amongst businesses. Start building your presence now!
