Getting Excited for CreateAthon
With CreateAthon just over a day away, our staff members are getting increasingly excited. Here is what a few have to say about the incredible opportunity:
Abbie Patenaude
Staying up for 24 hours? Who wouldn’t be excited?! In all honesty, I am looking forward to furthering my public relations and advertising skills, practicing pitching ideas to a client and building stronger connections with my peers. I am also looking forward to hearing what ideas each group comes up with during such a short amount of time. CreateAthon will be great for building stronger connections within the greater Grand Rapids community as well as our own GrandPR community. There are still a few faces of staff members I do not know, and I look forward to getting to know them better during this marathon.

CreateAthon is an exciting opportunity for anyone to have, especially students. As a student at Grand Valley State University I am grateful to have the chance to apply what I’ve learned thus far in real world scenarios and through GrandPR and CreateAthon I am able to do so. A full 24 hours tackling public relations situations for nonprofits may sound like torture to some, but I have a different feeling. The anticipation for this event fills me with nervous excitement as it means I get to work on what I came to school for and what I’ve come to enjoy with some of the best people I’ve met since attending this university. Now this won’t be another unenjoyable group project with a group of randomly assigned people that you’ll work with once and never see again. This project is one where the people in your group are your peers and friends, or at least they will be by the end of the 24 hours. To sum it up, I would have to say that CreateAthon has me gladly anticipating the time that will be spent connecting and advancing with others.

One of coolest parts about Createathon is the exclusivity of it! It is such an honor to be one of only FOUR student-run PR firms that were accepted to participate. How cool! While unsure about what to expect, I am eager to participate in the uniqueness of the opportunity. As a person who can only function on a cool nine hours of sleep, I am a little nervous about how I will last for a full 24 hours! However, I am eager to create comprehensive campaigns for nonprofits in the community and develop my skills as a budding PR practitioner alongside my continuously ambitious and talented peers.

To be able to participate in CreateAthon is such an honor worth celebrating. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to put our knowledge and skills to the test to create campaigns for this great group of local nonprofit organizations. GrandPR members are the most hard-working, productive, and creative individuals I know; I am excited to work with them for 24 consecutive hours. I look forward to building stronger bonds and making long-lasting memories as we combat exhaustion together. Let’s do this!
