Entry-Level Jobs in PR

If you’re about to jump into the real world with graduation in a few months, you’re probably wondering what your life is going to look like after college is over. Where are you going to live? What job are you going to have? What is your schedule going to look like? Trust me, I was just in the same boat and sometimes it’s not pretty. Believe it or not, there are a lot of opportunities in the integrated communications industry (woohoo!), so luckily for us that means recent or soon-to-be graduates are off to a decent start.

While doing my own frantic job search (strong emphasis on the frantic), I’ve collected some job-hunting resources that have worked well for me:

I have all of these websites bookmarked on my computer and I check them DAILY. For anyone who is interested in learning about PR jobs, internships, and qualification requirements in their area, these resources are a great start! 

I’ve gathered four examples of entry-level jobs I found on Indeed for you to get an idea of what some companies are looking for:

Brand & Events Coordinator

Responsibilities: Follow event budgets, promote events with local businesses and vendors, research for events and services, follow main event objectives, organize events, follow through with successful completion, problem solve, and enhance the company’s reputation.
Qualifications: Precision, accuracy, time-management, organization, strong interpersonal skills, decision-making, problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, creative thinking, positivity, and knowledge of Microsoft Office. 

Social Media Producer/Coordinator

Responsibilities: Grow social media audience and engagement on all platforms, create and monitor content with other social media associates, create social media tactics accordingly, adjust content to help inform the audience, and more. 
Qualifications: Four-year degree in Journalism, Communications, or other related fields, two years of relevant experience with social media, knowledge of all social platforms, ability to schedule content, independent worker, strong writing and organization skills, and basic tech-knowledge. 

Public Relations Assistant

Responsibilities: Work closely with high-profile clients, create performance driven campaigns, pitch ideas to clients, create innovative tactics and strategies to drive companies forward and increase their bottom line. 
Qualifications: Outstanding communication skills, detail-oriented, ability to work under pressure, multitasking and prioritizing, strong presentation skills, goal oriented, and motivated. 

Content Specialist

Responsibilities: Create copy for various tactics, assist with community relations, plan social media content, organize important information, and implement video broadcasts to relay information to the community. 
Qualifications: Degree in Communications or related field, one year of related experience, strong communication skills, organization skills, ability to use social media and other websites, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and ability to think critically and creatively. 

Don’t let these scare you off! There are plenty of opportunities in the PR world. For now, it’s critical to identify your strengths and weaknesses so you can work on them before graduation comes around.
