Why Your Business Needs Snapchat

Snapchat is an ever-growing social media platform that more and more businesses are taking advantage of. Just like other platforms, it takes some evaluation before deciding if it is appropriate for your businesses to explore this new medium. That being said, here are some reasons why I think your business needs a Snapchat.

Emoji: At this point, everyone (as in, EVERYONE) knows what emoji are, and chances are your audience uses them daily.  Emoji are a great way for a brand to show personality. With how short today’s viewers’ attention spans are, it’s important that messages are kept short and sweet.  This is easy and fun with the small images that make up emoji keyboards. Emoji are great complements to already great content. Some brands have tried communicating via emoji only, but that may not be right for your brand. See the video below for the clever way Domino’s is using them.

Geofilters:  According to Snapchat’s website, “geofilters are special overlays for Snaps that can only be accessed in certain locations. Artists and designers are encouraged to use this tool to bring their one-of-a-kind style to the Snapchat community. Simply choose the geographic area you want your filter to be available in and upload an image asset.” Geofilters are a great way to generate buzz on social media. If customers/clients can take selfies while at your location, they’ll send it to their friends and showcase the awesome things that are happening there. Geofilters are still new and cool, but get on them quick, because soon everyone will have one.

New filters: There are now even more filters available on Snapchat (fast-forward, slow-mo and rewind) that offer endless possibilities for businesses. Whether you’re telling a story, giving a tour of your company, or just having fun, these new filters leave plenty of room for exploration. The greatest thing about Snapchat is that it allows for storytelling in a way that Twitter and Facebook just can’t grasp. The live updates mixed with your followers being able to view it for 24-hours require an interesting balance.

Snapchat has plenty to offer businesses that choose to enter the arena, but it’s necessary to do research to determine if your audience is on Snapchat and if it is right for you. Good luck and happy snapping!
