4 Ways to Stay MotivateD and inspired
As a college student who is running from an internship, to school, and then to work every day (like most of us), I struggle with keeping motivated and inspired. This affected my work ethic as well as the quality of my work. The following changes helped me overcome that barrier and well, I would feel selfish keeping them all to myself. So here are 4 ways to stay motivated and inspired! (Especially during this mid-semester slump)
1. Try something new
One of the best ways to break out of that rut is to try something new! Whether it’s taking a workout class, trying to learn a new language or trying your hand at graphic design. Stepping outside your comfort zone can give you an entirely new perspective and promote new ideas. A simple example of doing something new is to switch up your workspace. Get out of the library and head to a coffee shop! Trying to work in the same space every day made getting work done feel dull and boring. By switching it up every once and awhile, I increased my productivity and felt more inspired.
2. Keep an idea notebookWhether it is in your phone or a physical book, keep track of those spur of the moment ideas. Even if they are not fully developed ideas, write them down and come back to them later. These ideas are great when you need to come up with new campaigns and tactics for clients. I never realized how many ideas I came up with doing day-to-day things until I started writing them down. Remember, good ideas come from incorporating two undeveloped ideas.
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.” - Steve Jobs
3. Break it down
By breaking down your large tasks into smaller, more manageable tasks, I’ve found that I’m not as intimidated to tackle large jobs and tend to get things done faster. After breaking it down, go through step-by step in terms of priority and cross them off. There is absolutely nothing more satisfying than crossing something off your to-do list.
4. Surround yourself with the right people
Attitudes are contagious. By surrounding yourself with positive and motivated people, it won't be long before you are feeling motivated and inspired as well. I have found that I am least productive when trying to get work done around friends and most productive when working around my GrandPR and PRSSA peers.
