How are we helping the Humane Society of West Michigan?

Our team has had the opportunity to work with the Humane Society of West Michigan to help improve internal and external communications. The HSWM is a nonprofit organization that assists over 11,000 animals annually. They are 100% donor funded; receiving no funding from the government or national animal welfare organizations.

GrandPR has worked with the HSWM in the past, offering council on a rigorous application for a national grant. This fall we are working to provide some more internal and external communication efforts; including flyers, press releases, social media content and more.

November is Silver Paws Pets awareness month; Silver Paws Pets are animals who are seven years and older. Many adopters want puppies/kittens or younger animals; however there are a lot of advantages to adopting a silver paws pet. Our team researched and prepared a fact sheet that included the Top 10 reasons adopting a silver paws pet can be beneficial.

Graphics and additional text were added to the fact sheet to make it eye catching to the public. It was then put into a flyer form for the HSWM to put around their shelter, brining awareness to the older animals in their care. GrandPR team members also helped create social media content, including tweets and sources for interesting animal stories for the month of November and beyond.

Going forward, the HSWM has asked our assistance in raising awareness about their December 6 Holiday Open House, which will include various media relations tactics. We will also be taking a trip to the HSWM soon, to get some hands on training with their animals. This training will allow us to take pictures of animals, retrieve biographies on each, and compile the information for Jen, Nicole, and their staff. This information will be used for their “12 Days of Strays” campaign, which highlights 12 Strays (animals who have been housed in their shelter for a long period of time) right before Christmas. This is geared to find these animals a “furever” home before the holiday season.
