Meet the VP of Professional Development: Sofia Anderson
Hi! I’m a Senior at GVSU pursuing a degree in Spanish and Advertising and Public Relations with an emphasis in Public Relations. I’m so excited to take on the role as Grand Valley’s PRSSA VP of Professional Development! I’m looking forward to planning agency tours and professional enhancement events that will excite and inspire members about their future PR career. I hope to create a diverse group of tours that will allow members to see PR in unique sectors. I also plan on establishing a closer partnership with nearby PRSSA chapters to help expand the chapter’s network. I am grateful for the connections and friendships I’ve made in PRSSA and I’m excited to continue to get to know members this year.
I am currently the Social Media Intern at Experience Grand Rapids and have also worked as a project intern for RED66. Additionally, I’m an account associate for Grand Valley’s student-run PR firm, GrandPR. I studied abroad in Alicante, Spain and after graduation, I plan to move to Spain to teach English for a couple of years while improving my Spanish skills and traveling. In the future, I hope to work for a PR agency or in Corporate PR where I can utilize my Spanish.
I’m from Brighton, MI (Go Bulldogs!) and currently I am loving living downtown Grand Rapids. I enjoy exploring local coffee shops and breweries. In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching Netflix, napping at the park, making friendship bracelets, and quesadillas. I also volunteer for the ELS on GVSU’s campus as an Intercambio partner. Lastly, I am a volunteer at Bethany Christian Services Transitional Foster Care & Assessment Center where I assist in Spanish-English translation at their school of refugee children. If I’m not doing any of these activities I can be found lounging on her lake with my family.
