My name is Delaney MacKenzie and I am your 2019-2020 PRSSA President! I’m entering my senior year at Grand Valley State University with a major in Advertising and Public Relations. I couldn’t imagine a better way to make the most of my last year of undergrad than by leading an organization that has given me so much.
I’ve been spending my summer as a Marketing Intern for TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants in my hometown, Livonia, MI. Most of my days consist of managing social media accounts for restaurants like MOD Pizza. When I’m not grinding out work on my laptop, you can find me spending time with my friends, indulging in the food scene of Grand Rapids, or staying active outdoors.
Joining PRSSA was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After attending my first meeting, I knew I was exactly where I needed to be. In the past two years, I’ve been eager to get as involved in this organization as possible from working on the Alumni Relations Committee, joining GrandPR and serving as the VP of Operations, to running for PRSSA President so I can make sure every member feels the way I did at my first meeting; this is where you belong.
The best piece of advice I can give to you is to do the same: get involved. Make the most of the experiences PRSSA gives you. Go to networking events. Attend agency tours. Write blogs. Apply to be in GrandPR, our nationally affiliated, student-run public relations firm. Talk to our speakers after meetings. Meet new people who have the same passions as you. Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way.
Questions about PRSSA? Looking to get more involved? Want to geek out over advertising or public relations campaigns? Don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to meet over coffee and get to know you!
Be sure to mark your calendar for our first meeting on Thursday, September 5th. Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss a single #PRThursday this year.
