After a year of interviewing professionals, faculty and students, Hunter Burin finally gets to be the interviewee on this episode of PR Hangover. Throughout the podcast, Hunter discusses his love of music, coffee and public relations.

PRSSA’s Impact on Hunter

He talks about the importance of students getting involved in organizations within their majors. Hunter joined PRSSA in his second year at Grand Valley and immediately fell in love with it. He was given the position of Podcast Director for the 2017-2018 year, and he learned a great deal in the process. Though he enjoys the speakers at PRSSA meetings, Hunter says he always looks forward to chatting with his peers when the meeting ends. He encourages all students to make friends within their major.

The Grand Rapids Touch

One touching moment from this episode is when Hunter discloses a person who inspires him. He says his father has truly impacted his life and inspired his career in public relations. Hunter also discusses how the city of Grand Rapids has become a staple in his life. Originally from the east side of the state, he enjoys the downtown GR scene and all it has to offer: hole in the wall restaurants and coffee shops, record stores, and concerts. Since he has grown to love the city, he hopes to score a nice job and stay in the area for a few years after graduation.

Reflecting on Podcasting

The experience Hunter gained throughout his year podcasting was a highlight of the conversation in this episode. He speaks on his past podcasts, the highs and lows of doing the podcast, and how much confidence he’s gained in communicating with professionals along the way. He says that one of his most memorable moments was with Dino Bascovic when he received a great podcast tip that he utilized throughout the rest of his episodes.

What’s Next?

As his final year at Grand Valley rapidly approaches, Hunter’s goal is to build connections with professionals in the area, work hard during his numerous internships and jobs, and ultimately find a position in the public relations field upon graduating.
