By: Ashley Mamula (@ashleymamula)The 2016-2017 year for GV PRSSA has been the best year yet. We were able to continue to grow the chapter, attend and even host PRSSA events, and won several awards along the way. These are just a few highlights that I am proud we could accomplish this year.
PRSSA National Conference
One of my goals this year as president was to expose members to national events. With some funding from the Student Life board, we were able to take 12 members to PRSSA National Conference in Indianapolis, IN. Members we able to learn about the public relations field from many great speakers as well as interact and network with them. There were also many professional development and networking opportunities with other PRSSA members from chapters all over the country. I am proud that we are able to offer this experience as a member benefit.
Generation Grand: Experience PR in GR
This year we secured a bid to host a PRSSA regional conference in partnership with Ferris State University. Which was HUGE deal for our chapters as they only pick two per region every year. The conference planning took a lot of energy, time and commitment. Without the whole planning committee efforts and our fearless advisor, Adrienne Wallace, we would not have been able to pull it off. Everyone’s hard work proved to be worth it after we were not only recognized by the PRSSA National President, Emma Finkbeiner, but also received an award by Grand Valley’s Student Life Awards. This will always be a big accomplishment that I was proud to have been a part of.
Our incredible Social Media Director, Kelly Darcy, took on a huge project this year with the conception of GV PRSSA’s first ever podcast. PR Hangover was our way of recapping speakers in a conversational format and became a way for us to further engage with our PR community as well as professors in an entirely new way. We are proud to share that PR Hangover has been continually ranked as the top 15 students shows nationally. Thank you Kelly for all of your hard work, you will be leaving a legacy.
Thank you to all the executive board members for kicking butt this year and all of the members for hanging out with us every #PRWednesday to learn about and further our selves in the public relations profession. You all have made my time here at Grand Valley and in PRSSA so incredibly special.
