Enough about my excitement, here’s a little ditty about me. I grew up in East Michigan, the Flint area to be specific. This summer I took not one but two internships in Flint. The first being with the OHL Flint Firebirds hockey organization as a Marketing/PR events intern, and the second with the Genesee Intermediate School District as an Education and Learning summer intern. Both of these internships exposed me to many different aspects of professional life.
With the Firebirds, I got to see the more fun side of PR, where we could actually interact with the fans and the community through promoting the Firebirds at parades, golf outings, free movie day, and Back to the Bricks (look it up, it’s Flint’s biggest event of the year). While doing all of this I was able to cultivate new communication skills that I had never tapped into. I am confident now that I could talk to just about anyone, and we are going to test that out at the first meeting!
At the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) I was able to learn how an office setting worked, and how corporate politics worked. I am very grateful for this experience because not only was I able to master these skills but I was able to help the children of Flint after the water crisis that occurred last winter. My first week on the job I was put to work sorting and delivering books to every child in the county that was affected by the lead poisoning. This was a humbling experience to help combat the damage done from the lead.
Through these experiences I am thrilled to be your VP of Chapter Development this year. I am sure through the fundraising events, chapter events, #PRWednesday meetings, and PRSSA Nationals, we will all get to know each other well.
If you are eager to get in touch before then, feel free to hit me up via social/email.
