By: Eleanor O’Hara What’s not to love on a day full of love? Whether you’re single or in a relationship, you know you can expect something sweet from your favorite brand. PR professionals love Valentine’s Day because holiday themes are so broad; it leaves a lot of room for cupid to shoot some arrows. But what lessons can a PR pro learn from a holiday like Valentine’s Day?

Here are three things a PR pro should keep in mind for Valentine’s Day (well, everyday, really):

1. Be flexible– Valentine’s Day can be a sore spot for some people and you don’t want to make the mistake of reminding people that they are alone. So, if you want to win the hearts of your audiences, offer them something exciting or funny. This year, Qdoba is offering a free burrito to anyone who kisses…anything. So if you love your significant other or you just love burritos, Qdoba offers a spin on Valentine’s Day for everyone.

2. Know your audience– As a PR pro, it is important to know your brand and your audience’s specific needs. Just as some people don’t like chocolate and some people are allergic to flowers, you need to tailor your message to your audience.

3. If you’re gonna do a stunt, make sure you do it right– Be the heart shaped pizza; simple, like-able, and most importantly, share-worthy!

February 14th is just another day but as a PR pro, it is important to understand that it is a day to engage audiences. Have some fun and spread the love. Plus, there is always the half-off candy to look forward to on February 15th!
