School is back in session! The great thing about coming back to school is seeing all my APR friends. I mean my roommates and other friends are great and all, but I can’t talk to them about strategies and tactics. It is great to see everyone and catch up on the internships they did over the summer or are doing now.

What I am looking forward to the most about this upcoming semester in PRSSA, is meeting new friends and the opportunities. As a Senior graduating in April, I need to start thinking about what I am going to do post graduation. I am sure that many other seniors soon-to-graduate, are in the same position as I am.

I am particularly excited about the big trips to Detroit and Chicago. Going to those kinds of places will be a great way to experience, first-hand, if you can see yourself working there in the future. In class, my professors are always talking about going to agencies and touring their work environment.

Likewise, agency tours are a great time to ask questions. For example, you can inquire about their favorite spots for lunch or what they do for fun on the weekends. This way you can get a better feel of what it is really like to live and work in that area.

It’s also great to learn about the history of the company and their mission to see if they closely match your own professional goals. Learning the good, the bad, and the ugly is basically the best way to figure out which company works best for you. Plus going to any tours is a great way to meet new friends, and I know that as an APR major we all love making friends.

For those seniors who are trying to find any connections and praying that you will have a job right after graduation, don’t stress! If we stick together and participate in the opportunities that come along, we should be able to succeed.

Professors always say that if you connect and build a good relationship with an employer, there could be a job offer. Word of advice: attend meetings, tours and connect with other professionals.

PRSSA does a great job of providing those opportunities to students, whether it is through the speakers, agency tours or just through each other. Peer connection can be the best! And I cannot wait to meet more friends within PRSSA and hope to gain some new network connections with professionals.
