Like you, I am continuously learning from my interactions and using them to fuel my curiosity and leading my to new experiences. I am an encouragement expert and efficiency enthusiast.
According to GVSU, 70% of all students are undecided at one time during their academic career. I was among those students until I shadowed a marketing director and GVSU alumni at a local media content marketing agency. I realized the communications industry allowed me to apply my problem-solving techniques, personable nature and assortment of interests. Now, I’m the CEO of GrandPR, a Marketing Student Associate at Steelcase and a senior studying advertising and public relations and digital studies. Collaboration and ideation energize me in my classes, extracurriculars and internships.
As a lover of a little bit of everything, I have used my college career to dabble in different flavors of advertising and public relations. Serving as the Marketing Director for TEDxGVSU my sophomore and junior year, I contributed to planning an intricate event for one hundred attendees. The annual five-hour event features eight speakers with intermittent workshops, appetizers, and entertainment.
Adjacent to my involvement with TEDxGVSU, I joined GV PRSSA and GrandPR as a member of the Alumni Relations Committee and an Account Associate. In these roles, I strengthened the relationship between GVSU ADPR graduates and current students, built a database of nearly 4,000 alumni and developed a social media strategy for a local interior design firm.
These experiences introduced me to social media management and led to my position as the Social Media Intern with Experience Grand Rapids. Working with the destination marketing organization during a time that the city was expanding exposed me to not only countless excursions and attractions, but also to the tourism industry and how to connect with niche publics.
I transitioned from a consumer-facing nonprofit to a B2B, $3.4 billion revenue corporation, Steelcase. I work on the Architectural Solutions team to support product marketing for demountable walls, office pods, and modular power. My responsibilities sparked my passion for data analysis and project management.
In my current role as GrandPR CEO and serving on the GV PRSSA board, I strive to create an environment of inclusion and community. I actively partake in the program’s live Twitter chats (previously #PRWednesday, now #PRThursday) and sit by new members at meetings!
My curiosity continues onto ski lifts, biking trails, and volleyball courts when I step away from my computer screen, always trying new routes and runs. The only food I don’t fancy is black licorice and the best meal I ever ate was a seafood pot pie in South Carolina. I prefer my coffee black and love coffee shop chats.
