Summer Highlights:

Internship @ the Grand Rapids Symphony. Being the public relations intern at the GRS, I was able to work on promotion for the Picnic Pops concert series. I spent several Fridays in July setting up and working on concert production. I really enjoyed getting to know the other interns and even meeting the President & CEO of the symphony, Peter Kjome.

Concerts. Probably my favorite activity (ever). I attended several concerts/festivals this summer, some of which include Blessthefall, Warped Tour, and August Burns Red. Some of the bands I saw at Warped Tour were Anberlin, The Devil Wears Prada, Parkway Drive, and For Today. I was really lucky to have the chance to meet all of the members of Anberlin at Warped. It was a really cool experience!

Hiking @ North Manitou Island. My boyfriend, Andrew, went with me on a three-day hiking trip to North Manitou Island, Michigan. It rained quite a bit, but was still a really awesome time. The beach was beautiful, and we saw lots of neat wildlife (deer, chipmunks, snakes-eek!). We took a day hike to the lake in the middle of the island, Lake Manitou. I highly recommend this place. I can’t wait to go back!

Summer Classes. On a not-so-fun note, I took a few summer classes. Luckily I had a great professor for Communication Theory, so it wasn’t too bad.

Traverse City. Andrew and I took a short trip to visit breathtaking Traverse City, Michigan. Even though it was a bit chilly, we still had a great time exploring downtown. We went to Pirates Cove to play putt-putt golf (I’m not disclosing who won) and drove along the bay. It was nice to have a mini-getaway before classes started again.

It was a great summer, but I’m looking forward to a fantastic last year of college.
